All good things must come to an end and it seems that this is also true for Aric of Dacia as he has a final stand with a vicious bounty hunter crew in X-O Manowar #13.  His once ally Bruto has been revealed as the traitor who hired the bounty hunters and now Aric is in for the fight of his life.

The first time Aric went up against the bounty hunters? They took his armor and left. They left Aric alive because it wasn’t part of their mission to kill him. But now? Now Aric stares down six bounty hunters who have no problem finally finishing the job.

The caveat? It’s Aric. It’s his armor. He has been down. He has been at his lowest point. But he knows nothing else other than his drive to succeed. So Aric fights the bounty hunters. Not just for his own life but, perhaps, the life of everyone on planet Azure as well. This fight is one for the ages. It’s not just X-O Manowar slicing and dicing these bounty hunters. It is a smart fight because it really is a fight that Aric may not possibly win.

This issue has some finality to this chapter of X-O Manowar. What I will say is that this entire 13 issue journey has been a really superb read. I was slow on the uptake at first but quickly accepted this tale as a science fiction masterpiece. Aric’s journey from civilian to soldier to general to emperor to a coup d’état against him was masterfully executed by Matt Kindt and the cadre of artists who worked with him. The title has proven itself to being the best and most entertaining on the market.

I’m not sure what the future of X-O Manowar is going to be nor if there is going to be a shakeup in the creative team. What I will say is Matt Kindt and Ryan Bodenheim worked very well together the last few issues. Matt Kindt is still on the title with #14 paring him with artist Ariel Olivetti. I’m not sure if Kindt will stay on the title or start wrapping up his days on X-O. What I will say is he has created a story for the ages and I can’t wait to sit down and read all the last thirteen issues together. This arc will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
