After reviewing (AND LOVING) the first issue of this Kick-Ass reboot I delved into the new Hit-Girl series only to find myself a bit disappointed. As I never read the original series my only exposure to Hit-Girl was watching Chloe Grace Moretz kickass up on the big screen. While the new Kick-Ass focused on a new “hero”, Hit-Girl was about the titular character. I just couldn’t get into that first issue. I was very, very, very happy that when I picked up Kick-Ass #2 it was just as good as Kick-Ass #1. Fuck it…it was so much better than issue #1.

The issue starts off right where we left off. Patience (AKA the new Kick-Ass) went to rob some gangster douchebags and beat the ever-livin’ crap out of everyone. She takes off with all the money as well, to the tune of $40,000. What’s she going to do with the money? She has a plan and that plan is not go out spending the money frivolously. She’s going to do some good with the dough plus help her family. On top of that? She may keep robbing the bad guys. Because why not?

The issue draws you into the world of these gangsters, into Patience’s family life, and even into the life of a family where abuse is rampant. Mark Millar gracefully weaves the tale together in issue #2. Every page, every panel serves its purpose. The bad guys want Kick-Ass. Kick-Ass wants the bad guys and their money. Then there’s the every day person on the street. Sometimes people need saving from bad guys in their lives. This Kick-Ass is willing to do whatever it takes to bring down those who may do harm.

John Romita, Jr’s artwork? Just as outstanding as ever. Mark Millar’s script? Not to be cliche here but it really kicked ass. The title truly lives up to its name and draws you right in. I am completely hooked on Kick-Ass and nothing is going to tear me away from this title. Bring the pain, Millar. I’m ready for it.
