Growing up I really only knew that the Charlton superhero line was purchased by DC Comics, who started publishing updated comics of Charlton characters like Blue Beetle and Captain Atom.  I also knew that they published E-Man!  But I never owned any Charlton E-Man books.  I had E-Man comics from First Comics and Charlton Comics but never was able to find the older Charlton issues.

Not all of Charlton’s assets were purchased by DC Comics and a few years ago Charlton Neo was launched. From GoFundMe: The imprint started as a spin-off of The Charlton Arrow Facebook page, started by Mark Knox as a tribute to the old Charlton Comics line. It quickly attracted a lot of devotees and comics professionals and it was soon decided to put out a tribute book. Comic veterans Paul Kupperberg, Roger McKenzie and Mort Todd formed an editorial board that gathered a wild assortment of creative talent that produced a varied genre of material, from superheroes and westerns to horror and funny animals.”

Mort Todd and his amazing team have put many hours of blood, sweat, and tears into their Charlton Neo relaunch. Unfortunately Charlton Neo has run into some problems. They’ve gotten books into comics shops, have seen those books sell out, but then stores don’t reorder the books after selling out.

Mort Todd has sprung into action and launched a GoFundMe in hopes of keeping the company afloat and getting comics out there to Charlton fans. “After all this productive work, we are on the verge of losing it all,” the page says. “The comics have been a true labor of love but sales haven’t been enough to take the comics to the next level, where they can be promoted properly and reach a wider audience.”

“Some titles have been delayed due to a variety of financial calamities including personal misfortune and most recently the hacking of our Pix-C website, a weekly web comics site, which will require the rebuilding of hundreds of pages of comics. If we don’t get some backing soon, we may have to discontinue our comics… and there are some great ones in the pipeline! Therefore we’re reaching out for financial aid to help bolster our books and are offering fun rewards for support. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated and make sure we continue to create entertaining comics that will benefit the world!”

There looks to be a bunch of great rewards that include digital books, prints, t-shirts, and even books signed by the crew. Including Roger McKenzie – the man, the myth, the legend!!!

Just $5 will get the company a long way and you may just find some new friends and characters to love.
