Here’s the official press release:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy.  In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga:  STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

(1) It comes right after my birthday.  So thank you for a great birthday present.

(2) Does this mean that the Jedi are truly no more?  Is it referring to finding Luke Skywalker and he really is, at this moment, the last Jedi?  Will Rey become a Jedi?  Will she be the last Jedi?  But she wouldn’t be the last…she’d be the newest.  Unless Luke dies too, right?

(3) I usually refer to the original trilogy as Star Wars, Empire, Jedi.  Can’t do that anymore.  Not with two Jedi movies.

(4) A trailer is probably imminent.  I imagine we’ll get some notice in the next few days or couple weeks that the latest trailer will premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live or Good Morning America (ABC owned programs).

(5) I dig the title – at least I dig it more than I did ‘The Force Awakens’.  This is pretty mysterious and really makes me think about what is going on with this saga.

Can’t wait for the trailer!!!
